Start a new world and when it loads hold shift and click on the ? In the top right corner.
Follow along through the whole tutorial in one sitting and you should get this.
When you build a ship keep it very small and basic so you don't use up all your credits and resources. If you go big you may run into a problem of your ship using way to much energy and you'll have downsize it when you do the hyperspace jump back.
Also if you break your ship it would be easier just to create a new world.
