While your potion is on cooldown (When the potion icon is filled red still), keep drinking potions. Do this with a potion you have plenty of as the effect is reduced and you will literally waste them.
You might even do this accidentally in a panic.
Elixirs might not work since they don't seem restricted by the cooldown although the graphic still appears.
