There is a bears den northwest of the headless ripper inn.
The bear is very hard to fight unaided, but it is weak against the summon insect spell. The insects tank and weaken the bear so you can do damage to it without the bear focussing you down too quickly.
You can buy summon insect with the spell vendor in the remnant camp for 150 silver
