Easiest at midnight. Stay in the starting candle light until it goes out, then just wander around the map until the time runs out. Listen very carefully for Tim, he'll appear more often since you don't have a light. You can light matches when you think he's starting to get close, I'm not sure if it actually keeps him away though.
