Slayaway Camp is a horror-puzzle game released in 2016 by Blue Wizard Digital. Within Slayaway Camp, you play as a serial killer, killing campers across numerous levels of play. Within each level, you can only move across solid lines, and cannot stop half way through a line, adding the puzzle aspect to the game in how to kill everyone needed, and still make it to the portal, without getting stuck in a loop of movement. Tracking 50 achievements, with a TrueSteamAchievement score of 799 points, this is a game ideal for horror fan achievement hunters also.

I got this game after watching YouTubers Markiplier and Jacksepticeye playing it, deciding that it seemed like some gory horror fun with the added aspect of puzzle strategy added in, and I wasn’t disappointed. The game is easy at first, as expected from the first level of a game, but quickly gets more challenging, causing gamers to sit and contemplate each move before they make it. Honestly, this game did give me a bit of a headache, some of the puzzles seeming to be more complex than they needed to, but it’s all part of the challenge.
With numerous ‘movies’ set up as levels, with varying amounts of levels within, this is a brilliant tribute to old 80s slasher horror, and brings a new aspect of horror into gaming.

The game design is very Minecraft-esque, with all the characters being pixel blocks, but still, the gore content is quite extensive despite being pixelated. Luckily, for those interested in this game that can’t quite deal with gore, there are different ratings of gore levels within the first level, before the first kill, so it can be suited to those who are interested in this game, without much of a capacity for gore.

Overall, this is a fun game for horror fans who like a challenge, or puzzle gamers who enjoy a bit of horror added into their challenge. This is a really well done game, with a lot of good content, that’s a really good bit of fun. With only a £5.99 price tag on Steam, or various keys available at £1-£3 around online, this is a game I’ll definitely be playing more in the future, and will undoubt be logging 100+ hours on. Definitely fun, and definitely brain scratching, I’m excited to see what other games Blue Wizard Digital have come out with.
