Call of Duty: WWII Begins Blitzkrieg Event

As predicted, Sledgehammer Games has begun a community event in Call of Duty: WWII to prepare players for the impending release of "The War Machine" DLC. The Blitzkrieg event runs for three weeks from now until May 8th and offers a variety of XP bonuses and new additions.

First, we'll begin with the new additions. The Ground War game mode makes its first appearance in WWII as a limited-time game mode for 18 players. While the mode will disappear at the end of the event, a new HQ map has been added permanently to Prop Hunt, Gun Game, and Free For All game modes.

To give players a bit of variety, Captain Butcher has returned with six new permanent weapons for players to collect: the ITRA Burst Rifle, the Type 5 Rifle, the Sterling SMG, the fully automatic M2 Carbine Rifle, the Type 38 Sniper Rifle, and the Baseball Bat melee weapon. He also comes equipped with new weapon skins, including limited-time variants, new weapon charms, and new uniforms and uniform collections, such as the British Tanker Uniform Collection and the Australian Infantry Uniform Collection. The weapon variants and the uniform collections will disappear on May 8th. You can check out the new content in the trailer below:

As mentioned in the trailer, there's a new community challenge that will begin at 10AM PT on April 20th and end on May 8th. Between the entire community, players will need to complete 75 million Orders and Contracts from Headquarters. Once the community hits certain milestones in the Challenge, players will be awarded with a new Emblem, Calling Card, Weapon Charm, Special Helmet and, at the end of the challenge, a Rosie weapon variant.

If players complete specific Orders and Contracts, they can earn Blitzkrieg Bribes chests that contain a single item from one of the limited-time Blitzkrieg Collections. These chests are protected against duplicates. There's also a variety of 2XP bonuses in many areas of the game. Take a look at the image below for the bonuses that will be active during the first week of the event.

Finally, there are new Contracts and Orders available in the Nazi Zombies game mode and they can be found in the Nazi Zombies menu before starting a game.

The event runs until May 8th. We can probably expect "The War Machine" DLC content to be released around the same time.
