Cat Quest General Tips/Tricks
Disclaimer: Not put on this image are "Blue Swirl" orbs, those represent XP, which level your cat. Refer to "Experience and Gold" for more information.
General Achievement Info
The 12 achievements of Cat Quest aren't super difficult, however, do require a minimum of 5+ playthroughs to earn the 100% achievements for this game. (2 of them are considered "hardcore style playthroughs") but will get to those in the main section of this guide.
The first playthrough is considered the toughest of the 5, but it should get you familiar with the game's concepts.
Playthroughs 2-5 are done in the "MEW GAME" playthroughs, but that will be reserved for the playthroughs after the first one.
Experience and Gold
Experience orbs weren't featured on my introduction to the game but run into the Blue colored orbs with a swirl to earn cat experience. These are found through killing enemies, completing quests, in dungeons, and found rarely in the open world.
Gold coins also appear from killing enemies, completing quests, and found in the open world. Later sections of the game have tougher enemies but drop more gold coins.
There is no max level in the game for Cat Quest, however, your main playthrough and any MEW GAME playthroughs are separated, therefore, some achievements are possibly easier on your first playthrough (the main game) versus the MEW GAME playthroughs, but your experience may vary.
Cat Naps
Cat naps are found in every single town. By using a cat nap when not in combat, it heals your cat to full and restores all mana. This also saves your game as well.
Health, Mana and Armor/Armour
Health is represented by the red bar below your cat. The amount of health your cat has is based on your cat level and gear.
Mana is represented by the purple bar below your health bar. You regain mana when performing melee attacks on enemies or using a cat nap.
Armor (or Armour), which is found on certain armor pieces provides a "shield" to damage taken from enemies, but doesn't necessarily negate 1-shot kills. Armor regenerates naturally over time when not in combat.
If your health and armor/armour bar hit zero, you receive a Game Over. If you used a Cat Nap prior to dying, you will respawn at that town.
Attacking Enemies
In the main story, you will be given a hint telling you to pay attention to the color and size of numbers. If they are big numbers, that means the enemy is weak to the attack and take more damage from your attacks/abilities. Smaller numbers or white colored numbers mean the enemy is resistant to the attack and take less damage.
Using Flamepurr on enemies, regardless of weakness or strength still increases the damage you do to enemies.
Some common examples of this rule are:
Stone "golems" in dungeons take more damage from Flamepurr but less damage from your melee attacks.
Some enemies like the "skull cat" take less damage from Flamepurr and more damage from melee attacks.
Experiment attacks if needed to get the right combination to defeat enemies efficiently!
Arcane Temples
There are 7 Arcane Temples in the game, located in the following areas:
You will earn this achievement if you get all of the following abilities to Level 1:
The Catpital - Flamepurr - Creates a flame circle around your cat, weakening enemy defenses and dealing fire damage over time to enemies. Learned by default in the main story, arguably the best ability in the game. Level this ability to max as soon as possible first!
East Pawt - Lightnyan - Shoots a lightning bolt on both your left and right side of your cat. Decent if you know how to aim your cat when casting this ability.
Bermewda's Triangle - Healing Paw - Heals your cat for a little bit of health. It's not that great of a healing ability but helps a little. Use gold to level its power over time.
Northeast of Pawt City - Freezepaw - Shoots a frost bolt from the top and bottom of your cat. Slows enemy attack speeds and movement speeds of enemies. Great if you are unable to dodge boss attacks. You can get this ability without water walking (detailed in the walkthrough). One of the 3 most important abilities, but not as powerful as Flamepurr! Level this ability to max as soon as possible after Flamepurr and Purrzerk!
Windmew City - Cattrap - Places a trap on your cat's feet, snaring (slowing) enemies if they run into the trap, and dealing some damage to them. Not absolutely essential, but required for an achievement. Last one found naturally without using water walking.
These two require Water Walking (explained in the main story walkthrough) to obtain:
Death Isles - Astropaw - Deals Arcane damage from all 4 corners of your cat's hitbox. Extremely difficult to aim, absolutely not worth using. Still required for an achievement.
Southwest of South Point (after The Dark Forest) - Purrzerk - Passively increases all cat damage (DMG) for a small duration! Level this ability to max as soon as possible in conjunction with Flamepurr!
All skills have 10 levels and require an increasing amount of gold to level to max. Flamepurr is the cheapest of the 7 to max, get Flamepurr to max first before focusing on Freezepaw or Purrzerk. Also, after you learn the ability by buying the ability's Level 1 for 50 gold each (except Flamepurr which is given to you for free), you can learn all future levels of all abilities in any Arcane Temple in the world! You are not required to max all 7 skills to earn the above achievement.
