The Crown of Thorns is required for this achievement, as it is the only way to inflict fear and rage upon enemies. The Love Bomb will inflict charm upon enemies periodically, but if you are afflicted with charm it is redundant. The crown of thorns applies any afflictions that ail you upon your enemies when you take damage.
