Off-Peak

Off-Peak is a free indie game developed and published by Cosmo D Studios. The game's store page claims the genre to be "adventure", but I'd say it's more of a "walking simulator". While i despise that term, I must say it is pretty accurate for this game.

The game starts you off in front of a train station. With no money to get home, a man on the bench offers his ticket to you. Sounds fine, but the ticket was ripped into 8 pieces and was thrown about the station. That's about all of the relevant plot I picked up on, but it's enough to move the game along.

Man

The game requires the minimum of 2 playthroughs to get all of the achievements, and if done correctly should only take about 1-2 hours.

Over the next couple of pages, I'll show you how to get all 6 of them for that sweet, sweet 100% completion.

There are 8 pieces of the ticket around the train station.

There is a map in the stairs directly in front the entrance (there are other maps around the place, but they just show the same image).

Map

The layout is pretty simple, so let's continue with the 8 locations:

Note: These are in no particular order, they can be gathered in whichever order. I've marked the location on the map on each image with a red circle.

1: Upon entering the train station, you'll be greeted with the first piece.

2: On the main floor of the train station (right side). In the corner of the entrance steps there is a small Chinese restaurant. On the counter, there is another ticket piece.

3: On the main floor of the train station (right side) there is a stand selling sheet music. On one of the stands there is a ticket piece.

4: On the main floor of the train station (right side) there are steps leading down to the subway. Head down to the subway train platform, go behind the steps, there is a small decorated cubby hole. On the carpet, there is a ticket piece.

5: On the main floor of the train station (left side) there is a pizza stand. Under one of the pizzas is a ticket piece.

6: On the main floor of the train station (left side) there is a record stand. On one of the tables is a ticket piece.

7: In the left wing of the train station there is a bar. On one of the tables in the bar is a ticket piece.

8: In the left wing of the train station there are steps leading to the lookout point. Great view aside, head left near the lady looking down. Behind her is a ticket piece.

1st Playthrough:

  • Good Samaritan

You didn't take anything from the train station that didn't belong to you (except the ticket)!

Do not steal ANYTHING (except the ticket pieces, you kinda need those).

Just get the ticket pieces and finish the game to get Good Samaritan. No stealing of pizzas, records, sheet music or cookies.

2nd Playthrough:

The Insightful Listener, Observant Eavesdropper achievement requires you to (read) listen to every piece of dialog in the entire game.

This one is a pain. It's not difficult, it's just tedious. The fact that you don't know if you did it until you finish the game makes missing any dialog a painful chore of replaying the whole game, listening to all of the dialog again and having to worry if you did listen to all of it (again). It's really easy to miss a single piece of dialog and that's precisely what happened to me.

Visit the train conductor before getting all the ticket pieces, he also has different dialog. Stealing any item makes the vendor change his/her dialog, so listen a couple of times before stealing.

Here is a list of all the people who have dialog, sorted by location:

Outside:

  • The man on the bench
  • Group of people (4) talking outside of the station door

Train station main floor:

  • Chinese restaurant chef
  • Sheet music salesman
  • Sheet music customer
  • Ticket counter lady
  • Ticket counter information man
  • 2 guys watching the big man sit in front of the piano
  • Pizza master
  • Pizza customers (Sitting on the table behind the oven)
  • Record saleswoman
  • Business man on phone (On the benches)

Train station top floor:

  • Marcus (Antagonist? Owner of the train station)

Train platform:

  • Train conductor (visit him before getting all of the ticket pieces)

Subway:

  • Cookie saleswoman

Bar:

  • 2 guys playing Magic: The Gathering
  • Guy and girl playing D&D
  • 4 people playing a tabletop game (don't know which one)
  • The bartender

Lookout point:

  • Blue dress lady

I suggest doing something else (ex. playing on your phone) while having all of the text scroll by once or twice just to make sure you did it.

On the main floor of the train station there is a pizza stand. To get the Pizza Connoisseur achievement you have to eat all of the pizzas on the stand and the pizzas from the ladies on the table near the stand. Neither the pizza master, nor the customers are happy about you doing this.

On the main floor of the train station there is a stand selling records. To get the Record Collector achievement you have to take all of the records from the stand. Pretty simple.

On the main floor of the train station there is a stand selling sheet music. To get the Sheet Music Librarian achievement you have to take all of the sheet music from the stand. Pretty simple.

On the railway platform (one level below the main floor) there is a vendor giving away special cookies. To get The Cookie Crumbles achievement you have to eat all of the cookies. I feel fuzzy Pretty simple.
