Full Throttle Remastered

Full Throttle was an adventure game originally released by LucasArts in 1995. It was an extremely well-selling game at the time and considered by many to be an all-time classic. I played the game when it was first released and completed the entire thing, without hints or a walkthrough, in about half a day. For an adventure game for that time, this meant the game was extremely short and easy. Its popularity stems from the style, atmosphere, and humor, which it has in large supply. As a LucasArts game it is filled with Easter Egg references to Star Wars (Mark Hamil even voices some of the characters), Indiana Jones, and previous LucasArts games.

The Remastered version, released in 2017, is the same game with updated graphics and built to work on modern systems. It includes 40 achievements, about 2/3 of which are unmissable story-based achievements, the rest of which are missable. All are easy to get and can be obtained on a single playthrough. Because of the large number of achievements relative to the length of the game, many of them will come fast and quick and through many parts of the game you can theoretically unlock a new achievement every few minutes.

This is a bare-bones walkthrough that will allow you to complete the game and get all of the achievements. It does not point out all of the Easter Eggs and humorous fun you can have in playing; given that the game is fairly easy and short, you might consider playing the entire game on your own, then replaying a second time following a guide to pick up any missed achievement, but that is entirely up to you.

This is a fairly straight-forward point-and-click adventure game. It is most easily played with a keyboard and mouse, although a controller is possible. Left clicking on an object with which you can interact will generally bring up the actions icon/menu. There are four basic actions. A hand for using/picking up an object. A foot for kicking. A skull mouth for talking to/tasting (depending on the object). Eyes in the skull to look at an object more closely. Clicking generally on the screen will cause you to walk to that position. Red arrows point to off-screen locations, while yellow road-sign arrows indicate a place you can ride your bike to. Right-clicking will bring up your inventory. A few other keys can be used as short-cuts or to reveal hotspots (check out the controls in the game menu for a complete list).

The game has a few action sequences where you fight someone on a bike. These are fairly easy to win (as long as you have found the right weapon); the secret is one of timing, striking your attacks as you get close, but not taking too long for your opponent to strike you. There is no penalty for losing a fight, so not to worry if it takes time to get the hang of it.

Toward the end of the game there is a timed sequence...if you don't solve things fast enough you'll die and have to restart from a previous (auto)save. This will be pointed out in the walkthrough.

You are given nine save slots and can save at most points in the game. You should save occasionally just in case of unexpected crashes or problems, but if you follow the guide you shouldn't miss any achievements. There is an achievement for doing certain things at the end of the game without making an error, so that's one place having a recent save is useful, although if you follow the guide you shouldn't have a problem.

Some of the cutscenes are lengthy, and the game opens with a movie-like credits sequence. The very first achievement unlocks at the end of the opening cutscene. No interaction required.

Once the cutscene ends and you find yourself staring at a garbage dumpster, do nothing (don't move the mouse or touch any keys) for 2-3 minutes to unlock another (optional) achievement (this can be earned any time, but might as well get it out of the way).

Once the screen saver has popped up, use the mouse to remove it and start the game. Click on the lid on the right part of the dumpster to get out of it. A third achievement can be started immediately...whenever you interact with an object and a mouth icon appears, use it. The most common response you'll get is "I'm not putting my lips on that." Do that with 10 different objects to unlock

Head toward the General Surplus sign to exit the area. Try to use the bike and discover your keys are missing. Open the bar door by kicking it. Head inside.

Look at various objects if you want (also taste them to unlock the previously mentioned achievement). Talk to the bartender. Use your fist on him. You'll get your keys and unlock the story achievement

Go outside and use your bike. You take off down the road an encounter a biker from a rival gang, leading to a fight. Basically, whenever the bikes drift close together, start hitting the attack button. Eventually you should win the fight, unlocking the story achievement

This is immediately followed by a cutscene where your bike falls apart, you get hurt, then wake up in a mechanic's shop. The mechanic is Mo (Maureen). Completely exhaust all conversation with her to unlock the optional achievement

She tasks you with finding three items necessary to get your bike running again. Before you leave her shop, interact with the photo on the back right to unlock another optional achievement

Pick up the gas can on the floor in the lower right and the green hose near it (below the photo mentioned in the previous achievement), then leave the shop through the door on the right. You end up in a conversation with the reporter who saved your life. When done talking to her, head left to see an overhead view of the area.

Head to the trailer on the left-center side of the map (it's below the coliseum-looking junkyard). There is a missable achievement here (make a save game just in case). Knock on the door. This will cause Todd to come up to the door, but he'll refuse to open it. Do not kick the door in. Instead try to talk your way in. Repeat this a dozen or so times, trying different excuses to get in, and you'll eventually unlock

Once that is unlocked, you can now kick the door in and unlock the unmissable achievement

Open the cabinet immediately next to the now knocked-out Todd to reveal a lockpick (which you should pick up). Open the refrigerator on the back wall and pick up the steak inside it. Walk onto the brighter patch of floor next to the door and you'll trigger an elevator down. Pick up the welding torch to unlock

You automatically find yourself back outside Mo's shop. Exit to the map and head to the tower in the upper right of the map.

Use the lockpick on the gate to unlock both the gate and the unmissable achievement

Pick up the lock and head inside. Try to climb the ladder. An alarm will go off. Do not exit or climb the tower, instead click on the tank in the back-left part of the screen (the icon does not change to interact) and you'll walk back there and hide behind it, unlocking the unmissable achievement

After the cutscene, walk over to the hovercraft at the base of the ladder. Use the hose on the gas tank of the hovercraft. Use the gas can you are carrying with the hose. Use your mouth on the hose to siphon some gas. You'll automatically run away with it, deliver it to Mo, and unlock the unmissable achievement

Head to the map and to the junkyard in the upper left corner of the map (looks like a coliseum). Use the padlock from the gas tower on the entrance door on the left, then use the chain to climb over the wall into the junkyard.

There is a dog guarding the junkyard. You need to get rid of it. First, click into the junkyard to jump down off the wall. Then keep heading right until you get an arrow to move to a new area to the right. You should see yourself by a bunch of cars with the dog running around the middle. Put the steak in a nearby car. The dog will go jump inside the car with the steak. Exit back to the left. Look in the upper right corner of the screen. You can see the crane and if you point the cursor at it, get a big red arrow. Click on it to find youself back on the previous screen, but now in the cab of the crane. Use the controls to maneuver the crane over the car with the dog, lower the crane until it touches the car, press the red button to engage the magnet, then raise the crane as far as it can go.

Exit the crane and head back to the area where you first jumped into the junkyard. There is a junkpile in the middle of the screen under a light. Interact with it to get the forks you need. You'll once again find yourself back at Mo's and will unlock the unmissable achievement

After a brief cutscene you are back on your bike and heading down the road, only to find a police roadblock so you automatically head back into the town. Head over to the gas tower again, click on the ladder to set off the alarm and draw the police away from the roadblock. You'll automatically find yourself on the road, then a series of cutscenes which will include unlocking the unmissable achievement

Eventually you end up back outside Mo's shack. Look at the pile of debris to the right (where the goon fell) to find the photo of Mo and her uncle. Exit to the map, use your bike, then head out of town to the top of the screen (the icon will change to a different style: a yellow diamond with an arrow).

You find yourself back at the Kickstand Bar. Head behind the bar (red angled arrow) to the dumpster where the game started. Look at the dumpster to find the reporter. She'll give you a fake ID and you'll unlock the unmissable achievement

Head inside the bar. You'll see a newscast about the murder. Look at the TV three more times to learn more about the murder and unlock the optional achievement

(Save the game) Talk to Emmet (the guy with the knife). Tell him "I can do that", then keep repeating that you can really do it over and over again. Eventually his answer will change from "Not gonna happen" to "Only if it will shut you up" and you'll unlock the optional achievement

You'll now find yourself in a game of five finger fillet. As far as I can tell, once in the game, you can only exit by reloading your save or by actually winning the game, which requires you to successfully place the knife (moderately quickly?) in between various fingers in a particular order. There is no achievement for succeeding (just the one already unlocked for starting), so if you don't want to do it don't worry, just reload the save you made before getting into the game.

To win the game: If we label the spot outside the thumb on the right as position 1, and each gap between fingers (going counter clockwise) as positions 2 (between thumb and pointer), 3 (between pointer and middle finger), 4 (Between middle finger and ring finger), 5 (between ring finger and pinky), and 6 (outside pinky), then the pattern you have to do is: 1-2-1-3-1-4-1-5-1-6-1-5-1-4-1-3-1-2-1 (i.e., starting by the thumb alternate going counter clockwise to the other side and back outside the thumb, then return clockwise in reverse order).

When you're done with all of that, one way or the other, use the badge on Emmet to get a ride in the truck. A few cutscenes later you find yourself outside the mink ranch.

Head into the door in the lower right part of the building. On the wall across from where you enter are some photos. Look at them (you might have to choose the right one) to unlock the optional achievement

Another series of cutscenes start with Mo racing away on a bike and you following her, eventually leading to a bridge exploding, and you stopped on your bike outside a spilled fertilizer truck. Pick up some of the fertilizer (hot spot is beneath your bike). Use the tire iron on the tires of the wreck, then interact with the wreck to tip it over.

Use your bike then exit to the bottom right of the screen. Ignore all of the turns and ride until you get to the destroyed bridge at the end. Look at the sign on the right-hand side. Read all the message parts. You can jump over the gorge with the right equipment. Get on your bike and head back the way you came, again ignoring any turns. When you reach the mink farm a cutscene will ensue and you're now heading back the way you just came with the goons chasing you. When you reach the spilled fertilizer you'll automatically pass it and the goons will automatically crash, unlocking the unmissable achievement

They'll be picked up by their boss and you end up at the gorge again. Head back up the road again and stop when you get to the crashed car. Use the tire iron on the car to get the hover lift unit (a fan). Use the fan on your bike.

It's now time to get on the Old Mine Road. Get back on your bike and head down the road, taking one of the exits to the road. The first thing that should happen is you'll encounter Father Torque, former leader of your gang. Exhaust the conversation (if you like) and at the end you'll get the unmissable achievement

Continue on the road. You need to steer just a little bit; letting yourself drift to the side for too long can cause you to crash. Don't take any exits back to the main road, just keep circling the mine road. You will randomly encounter different bikers from each of the three rival gangs; doing so will start a fight with them, much like the one at the beginning of the game, but now with weapons (you'll start with your fists, the tire iron, and the fertilizer). Once you defeat one you can get their weapon or another prize. Some can only be defeated with better weapons. There are a couple of weapons you will need to solve quests and one you need for an optional, missable achievement. Some can only be defeated once, others multiple times, although you can only obtain one type of each weapon/prize. Losing a fight doesn't cost you anything, you just get on your bike and keep riding until the next encounter.

The bikers show up at random, but you can identify the general type by their bike and clothing. You can also back out of a fight that you don't want to deal with, either because you've already acquired their weapon and/or you cannot defeat them with your current weapons by hitting the backspace key. The trick to the fight is timing. You don't want to close too fast on them, because there is a pause before the fight starts. Once you actually pull out a weapon you want to get close and strike at the right moment. With a powerful weapon (e.g., chainsaw) you pretty much get a one-shot instant win. With weaker weapons, you need to hit multiple times. Against foes with powerful weapons (Cavefish, the woman with the chainsaw) you need to time it right and take them out (as described below) before they can quickly eliminate you.

The Vultures are on thin bikes, the Rottwheelers on red bikes with a thick front tire (and all shirtless, with only a vest), and the Cavefish on low-slung yellow bikes.

Vultures:
One of the Vultures is a woman with red, flowing hair. She just uses her fists and beating her does not lead to anything.

One of the Vultures has red sleeves and a dark vest and uses a chain. You can beat him with your fists, to win the chain, which you can then use against other opponents and is required to get another critical item.

One of the Vultures has dark clothing and when you first encounter him will strike up a conversation about recoil booster fuel, which he'll then use to pull away from you. When you encounter him a second time, you want to quickly switch to the chain and use it on him before he can engage the booster. Doing so should pull him off the bike and give you the booster, which is the second of three things you need to jump the gorge.

One of the Vultures is a woman with a red mohawk who uses a chainsaw. The chainsaw is the best weapon you can get, but you can only win it by using the fertilizer. Doing so will unlock the missable achievement

Rotwheelers:
The Rotwheelers all look pretty much the same from the back. One has a spiked mace, which is a very good, but optional weapon. One has a wooden plank that is necessary to beat a Cavefish. One is the guy you beat at the beginning of the game; he'll strike up a brief conversation with you and then use his fists.

Cavefish:
The Cavefish riders are almost impossible to defeat. You can do so with the chainsaw, but they self-destruct which does you no good. Instead you need the wooden plank you can get from a Rotwheeler. This will knock them out, allowing you to collect a pair of their goggles. The timing on beating a cavefish is tricky, you need to do it quickly, but also need to time it as they hit bumps and sit up to become a better target.

After you've managed to get both the booster fuel and a pair of Cavefish googles, equip the goggles. You'll stay on the road, but with no more random encounters, instead viewing the road through the googles. As you approach exits the googles will beep and a prompt to Exit will occur. Ignore these for now. To find the hidden cave, you need to travel the road until you go up and over an intersection with a main highway (you've probably crossed this a couple of times already). Just past this intersection you'll get the standard beeps and exit prompt but watch the prompt carefully...it'll briefly shift from Exit to Cave...at that point you want to trigger the exit and you'll end up exiting into the Cavefish Lair, unlocking the unmissable achievement

Once in the cave, ride your bike deeper into the cave two more rooms until you find the ramp. Get off the bike and use the ramp to push it next to the bike, then use it again to attach it to the bike. Get back on the bike and go back one room, to where the road takes a strong curve. Get off the bike and use the ramp. Ben will use it to remove the road markers from the curve, leading to a cutscene where the Cavefish chasing you all crash when they hit the curve because they don't realize the road bends here. You'll automatically find yourself back at the gorge with the ramp in place at the broken bridge and will unlock the unmissable achievement

Get back on the bike and use the travel marker by the gorge/ramp to automatically jump the gorge and unlock the next unmissable achievement

A short cutscene later and you find yourself at Corley Motors. Walk down the ramp directly next to your bike, then over to the right until you get a red arrow pointing down which will let you move to a souvenir stand. Look at the shirt behind the stand to get the vendor to turn his back and pick up the mechanical rabbit. Head back to your bike, get on it, and notice a yellow travel marker on the left/back side of the screen. Choose it to head to the Vulture hideout. Ben will automatically throw a stone into the empty field in front of you to reveal a minefield. Use the bunny with the field and watch it walk in until it explodes, leaving a battery behind. Pick up the battery and get the unmissable achievement

Exit the area and find yourself back at Corly Motors. Head back to the souvenir stand and use the battery with the electric car. Drive the car toward the upper right (red arrow) and then drive it into the turnstile on the left to get the vendor to go rescue it. Once he's gone, pick up the box of bunnies behind the counter and unlock the achievement

Head back to the Vulture's hideout. SAVE YOUR GAME. You're going to be sacrificing bunnies in order to get through the minefield, but you want to make sure that one manages to survive to get an optional achievement later in the game. If you don't manage to get through the field with any surviving bunnies, reload and try again.

Use the box with the minefield. You set it down and bunnies start hopping around. Rather than just let them go off on their own, pick them all up, one at a time. Once you have them all, use one with the minefield. It'll hop a bit then explode. Follow its path and use another. After about four bunnies you should get through the minefield with 2-3 to spare and unlock the unmissable achievement

After the ensuing cutscene, you are in a conversation with Mo. You can try various options just to see what happens, but eventually you need to give the following answers (they'll start over if you go down the wrong part of the dialog tree): "Let me go or else...", "I'll call you names!", "Diapered Dynamo!". After this you get another unmissable achievement

and a cutscene setting up the plan and then the start of the demolition derby. The derby is kind of irritating, if not particularly hard once you know what to do. You cannot get to Mo directly because of the goon's car. Instead, head toward the bottom left part of the arena to find a ramp. Jump over it to land on another car, stalling it out. Use your car to push this stalled car toward the bottom right corner, by another ramp. Push the car over the ramp, then back up and go over the ramp. You'll bounce off this car, then bounce off the goon's car, stalling it, leading to a cutscene where you successfully ram Mo's car.

You'll find yourself standing in the arena on fire. Run to the left toward the wall. You'll have a brief conversation about making a distraction. Run up next to the wall to set the arena on fire, eventually leading to a new cutscene where the goons got their car running. You find yourself standing on a car while they try to ram you. Step onto their car and they'll start driving around. Jump off and run into the giant fire in the lower right corner. They'll try to follow you, will blow themselves up, and you'll unlock the unmissable achievement

After more cutscenes you find yourself back at the Vulture lair in a conversation with Mo. Exhaust all options then look at the parts in front of her. You'll see serial numbers, including even more if you click on various items. One of these is the code to the safe, but we have no way of knowing which one at this point. You could write them all down to try or just look below to get the right one.

Leave the HQ to head back to Corley Motors, then point the cursor at the left edge of the building to get a right facing arrow and allow you to walk around to the back. You need to find just the right spot to kick. There are three poles coming up from the wall. The leftmost pole has a crack like a spike pointing up toward the pole. Heading right along this crack it immediately widens into a sort of triangle, before the crack angles upward. You want to kick below this wider triangular part, during the intervals where all of the meters have paused with the black marker in the middle. Doing so will open a secret door and unlock the unmissable achievement

Enter the door into the office. In front of the desk is a square which is the safe. Click on it to reveal it requires a six-digit code of all numbers. The combination is 154492. Enter the code, then click the button below the numbers to unlock it and automatically get a reel-to-reel tape (the will) and a keycard.

Exit to the right and use the keycard on the first door. You'll find yourself in the video control room with Ripburger making a speech below. To disrupt the speech, notice the two levers on the right-hand side. Use the left one once and the right one twice to melt the presentation and unlock the unmissable achievement

Back in the hallway, use the left door to enter another control room. Use the tape (the will) with the machine on the right to play the will to the audience; you'll also automatically put the murder photos on the projector. Many cutscenes later...

You find yourself clinging to the front of Ripburger's truck. Use the grill to open it revealing the fan. Use one of the remaining rabbits with the fan to unlock the missable achievement

Use the panel above the fan to open it. Ripburger will use his cane to push the panel closed. Use the cane to grab it out of his hand, then use it on the fan to stop the fan and allow Ben to automatically climb behind the cab. Use the tire iron on the rightmost hose (the one that looks likes its pleated) to pull out the gas hose, and get a cutscene where Ripburger tries to shoot Ben, Mo tackles him, the plane captures the truck, then a machine gun sends everyone to hiding. You'll also unlock the unmissable achievement

Save the game. Use the ladder. You'll pause when Ripburger tries to shoot you (don't move, he'll miss). Use the ladder again to get into the cockpit. Use the screen in the middle to bring up controls. Choose "Take-Off", "Post Take-off", "Gear", "Raise Gear" to trigger the next cutscenes.

Save the game again. Enter the cab of the truck and use the screen to bring up the menu system. Go to the Main Menu->Defense Menu->Machine Guns->Control->Fire to fire the guns and unlock the missable achievement

Go back into the cab and get to the menu again. This time follow the same path, but instead of firing the guns, choose System Off to send Ripburger to his doom. You'll unlock two achievements, a missable achievement for successfully doing this part of the puzzle without messing up or dying

and the unmissable achievement for defeating Ripburger

Immediately after Ripburger falls, you need to click on the red arrow pointing into the plane (near the bottom of the truck where it meets the plane and the place where Mo had been earlier in the scene). If you do not do this within a few seconds, the truck will pull the entire plane into the gorge and you'll die and have to do the last part over again. You'll then find yourself in the back of the plane, again with a brief interval to figure out what to do. Don't try to exit the plane...instead, notice your motorcycle on the left. Head to it and use it. You'll ride your bike off the plane triggering the final cutscenes.

When the credits start rolling, do not quit out of them, let them play through to the end (there are a lot of jokes sprinkled among the credits if you want to read them). At the end of the credits you'll unlock the achievment

and, assuming you did everything else and have all the others, the final achievement for getting all of the other achievements.

Congratulations on 100%.
