Wormwood Studios made their introduction onto Steam a memorable one with Primordia, a post-apocalyptic sci-fi point and click title. You will guide Horatio Nullbuilt through the futuristic, rusty dystopian wasteland known as Primordia. Horatio, and his floating comic-relief sidekick Crispin, need to get their stolen power core back; either that, or face death when their charges run dry and they shut down. They soon find out that getting their power core back is the least of their worries, as there's an entire city known as Metropol that's run by a corrupted master computer.

As you wander the lonely, desolate landscape of Primordia, you will come across many robots to interact with. Some of them are self-aware, some of them utter their pre-programmed responses, some will become friends, and some will be enemies. Man has ceased to exist for many years, though the exact timeframe is undetermined, but long enough for them to have vanished into legend. Horatio is a believer in Humanism, a religion that sees man as god; he even carries his copy of the Gospel of Man with him. The story is absolutely stunning, and the same can be said for the dialogue; I will forego delving any further into either so that you may truly enjoy the experience for yourself.

This is another point and click title that is obscure in its puzzle solving. There are many times that you will need an item which is hidden in a place that you'd never think to look. For people like me that completely suck with even the simple point and clicks, a guide will absolutely be necessary. However, for more advanced enthusiasts of the genre, you're in for a real challenge and treat. Every puzzle is a "think outside the box" type, and very few are expected or familiar. Even a large portion of the achievements are enigmatic. With a guide, you're looking at about 5-6 hours of playtime, without one you'll easily approach 10 hours.

The artwork of Primordia is done in a monochromatic rusty theme, for the most part consisting of dark browns and dirty oranges. There are subtle glimpses of neon reds and blues, and some places that are steel grey, but they're few and far between. The art does a fantastic job in bringing out the feeling that everything is coated in thick layers of rust, dirt, and sand, and that humans have been dead for centuries. Likewise, the pockmarks on Horatio and many other characters and places conveys the likelihood of near-constant acid rain. The melancholic, dismal, void-of-life atmosphere of the title is both exceedingly strong and somehow calming. The soundtrack is comprised of ambient, semi-industrial tracks that compliment the art wonderfully.

If you've been holding off on grabbing Primordia, stop waiting and just go for it. You simply cannot rob yourself of a detailed, highly immersive experience such as this one. Truly one of the greatest point and click adventure games of the modern era, Primordia is the complete package; visuals, audio, enjoyable characters, story, dialogue, and challenging gameplay. Even though it's a steal at $10.99 CAD, you can also find it on sale for $2.19 CAD at times, either one is a huge bargain.
