Released at the start of August this year by Random Seed Games, comes The Monster Inside; a detective noir audio-visual novel. Very short to complete, this game has ranked very high on Steam already and I decided to give it a go and see what it was like. I knew it was a short game, so I knew that even in the event I didn’t like it, it wouldn’t take too long to fully complete and finish the story.

I actually really enjoyed this. I’m not really a fan of noir genre things, and I was a little aprehensive, but Random Seed Games did absolutely brilliantly with this. A supernatural themed detective story, in a well done noir style is a very hard thing to come across these days, and I fully enjoyed it. It almost reminded me of The Wolf Among Us, and had a really good story concept.

The art and audio are all very well representative of the noir style, and felt like an old detective movie from the time, with the long coats and the hats to hide your face under. It was really well done, and both audio and visual complimented each other perfectly, and made this visual novel an absolute pleasure to go through.

However, it was much too short, and the story was almost predictable. The ending itself I couldn’t guess, but I guessed enough that it wasn’t a shock when it happened. A longer story line, and with a more discreet plot twist would have made this much more enjoyable, but this was brilliant as it was. I’ll definitely be taking a look at the rest of Random Seed Games’ works and keeping an eye on what else the bring out.
