From Red Nettle Studios comes the visual novel, The Bottom of the Well. Released in 2016, this game has been rated very positively by Steam users all over the globe. In this game, you play as Alice. You remember, Alice in Wonderland, right? Except this is a whole new kind of wonderland. This is a post apocalyptic dream that you have to guide Alice through, hoping she survives your choices.

For a post apocalyptic game, I wasn't expecting much from this. I've played so many different kinds of games in the post apocalyptic genre, I didn't think this would have anything decent to it.

Oh boy, was I in for a shock.

This was creepy. This was so life like, not in it's drawings or characters, or it's soundtrack, but in its descriptions of a post apocalyptic world that we all dread happening one day. The descriptions of what happens in Alice's dream are scarily accurate to what we imagine what will happen. I had goosebumps playing through this game all the times I did and was genuinely creeped out when I finished it.

This game is brilliant. Red Nettle Studios have really grasped not only what a visual novel should be, but what a post apocalyptic game should be also. They have mastered this, and there is no way that any post apocalyptic game could beat this one.

The only downside I had was how long it took to load new games and to go back to the title screen after each play through. Most of my 53 minute play time was just waiting for everything to load up. The game itself runs incredibly smoothly, but oh man the waiting times. I had to knock half a star off for this.

Other than that, I would highly recommend this game to those who love visual novels and/or post apocalyptic games. The Bottom of the Well captures the essence perfectly. Just give it a try.
