Released at the start of 2017, Soda Dungeon is an idle RPG, developed by AN Productions and Poxpower, published by Armor Games. In this game, you must manage your team of adventurers as you raid the local dungeon for treasure.

When I first played this game, simply to grab an achievement to keep my TSA achievement streak going, I rated it very low, only 1.5 stars out of 5. However, I logged back onto it the other day so I could start grinding on it to begin completing it and getting through the achievements and getting things done, and I found I actually really enjoyed it.

This game is incredibly simple; you hire adventurers, you go to the dungeon, the adventures automatically attack and kill the monsters, and you keep going until all of your adventurers are dead. And that’s all the game is, other than selling items and buying upgrades. That’s literally all there is to this game – or you can actually take control of your adventurers, but who really does that in an idle game – but for some reason I’m totally addicted to this. It’s fun to play and the soundtrack keeps it going and keeps it fresh, changing every 20 levels to something new.

Of course, there’s a lot of repetition throughout the game, in monster design – looking through my screenshots alone, you can see most of the monsters are just given a new texture pack for a different set of levels – and it’s all the same thing no matter what, the monsters just get higher HPs. It’s a bit of a down side, with all idle games – I’d love to see one with unique monsters for every level, and not just a new texture pack all the time.

At the end of the day, this is a really fun game to just sit and let burn on it’s own whilst you’re busy doing things – I’ve done it plenty whilst writing reviews today, and getting on with some studying. It works, it grinds well on it’s own and I would definitely recommend downloading it. It’s fun, the soundtrack is fun – and if it gets repetitive, you can always just mute the game. Definitely give this one a go, at least. It’s nostalgic, but modern, fun.
