Rentlord is what I would call, in the board gamer world, an engine-building game. You're looking for buffs and the right buildings to combine nicely together to generate an insane amount of income. Finding the right combos is what makes it so awesome! There are no missable achievements, and completion takes around 2 hours.

In Rentlord, you buy properties and bonuses to increase your income. It's all about the interaction between these two elements. With only properties, you won't reach the end of the game, but by finding the proper buffs for your properties, or by first finding a nice buff and then buying the right type of properties, you can achieve a significant income boost. It's especially satisfying when you manage to pull off the right combo and earn an insane amount of income.
What I love about this type of game is working toward small goals to unlock new buffs, and there are plenty of those in Rentlord. Most of them are even tied to an achievement, which feels like an extra reward. So, your first (few) runs will feel a bit harder, but working toward those goals helps you unlock the better buffs, and being able to pull off more crazy stuff in subsequent runs. This is what makes games like rentlord, but also luck be a Landlord and Balatro so addictive. However, this one doesn't take over your life as it is a short game.
In the beginning, I struggled a bit because some terms were not clear. The biggest example I have is buffs that happen every "round". Is a round a day, or is a round a week? It turns out it is a day, but I think it would have been clearer if the word "day" were used for those buffs instead of "round". However, the runs are short, and you can figure that kind of stuff out really quickly.
The achievements for Rentlord are things you would already working toward. Unlock new buffs, getting a high income. You can keep playing after you finished a run but the required amount of income goes up with a crazy amount each week. The most challenging achievement is to win a run with only 1 property. But this is very doable with one house and having the buffs for not buying new property and increasing the rent and multiplayer on your current property. So not one you will do early on, but after you unlocked a bunch of new buffs it is easy.
I give Rentlord 4 out of 5 stars.
