From developer Ran, and publisher Visual Wordplay comes Once Upon an All Hallow’s Eve; a horror, romance otome visual novel. You play as Cara Lee, a twenty year old graduating student who escapes to the mountain rest house with her friends.

Cara ends up unconscious from a landslide and when she wakes up, she is alone, with no one around to help, lost in the forest. Looking around for shelter, she comes across a mansion. She decides to try and take shelter there – but is there more to the mansion and the inhabitants than what first meets the eye?

I first downloaded Once Upon an All Hallow’s Eve, believing it to be like Trick and Treat – Visual Novel by Eternal Night Studios. I was expecting horror with a little bit of romance and was honestly disappointed to find it mostly romance with hardly any horror whatsoever. The small and rare jump scares were unbelievably ridiculous. The audio didn’t help at all.

The characters were all boring, flat characters and hardly any thought seemed to be put into their personalities. After finishing the first route, I just skimmed through the remaining three routes. There seemed to be nothing interesting about the story, and there was nothing to hold my attention, other than completing the game and deleting it from my computer.

Honestly, there was nothing about this game I can think to even say as a pro, other than the fact it is a short story. It took me twelve minutes to complete, after completing a whole route and then skimming through the rest of it. It’s quick, easy to get to 100% and this is really just a game for completionists, rather than anyone else.

If this is a game that’s right up your alley, then go for it! But if you aren’t 90-100% sure this is a game for you, I would definitely skip it. It’s really not worth it.
