A lovely adventure/farming game in which you level up different jobs to earn money and complete many other tasks. It gives you a lot of freedom to go the way you want to go. None of the achievements are missable and completion takes around 65 hours.
Approximate time to 100%: Around 65 hours
Estimated achievement difficulty: 1/10
Minimum number of playthroughs needed: 1
Is there a good guide available: You don't need a guide, but you can find a lot of info on the internet in case you're struggling with something
Multiplayer achievements: No, all of them can be unlocked in singleplayer
Missable achievements: I don't think so, as long as you play on the Pirate mode when starting your game. As there are a few achievements tied to this update
Grinding Achievements: Yes, however, the game itself is kinda grindy. Always hunting for resources to make new items and sell them for more money
DLC-Only achievements: There are achievements for the Pirate update, but that is a free update and not paid DLC
Speedrun achievements: No
Time-gated achievements: No
RNG-achievements: Yes, there is this achievement to win the big prize on a wheel of fortune. However, if you go there with a lot of money, not close to 8 am, and alt+F4 the game when not getting it you can have many retries without having to farm more coins
Does difficulty affect achievements: No, you can play on the difficulty level you would love to and still unlock all the achievements
Unobtainable/glitched achievements: No
Gamepad or mouse and keyboard: Gamepad
I have been looking at Luma Island since the release. As it looks beautiful and the freedom of doing all the jobs sounds so nice, Luma Island didn't disappoint. I had a lot of fun playing through the game and hunting down all the achievements. There was always something to do or work toward. Sometimes even too much, as it lets you choose what you want to do, so I sometimes felt panic if I was doing the right thing to go for X right now instead of Y. And looking back, I can see that it didn't matter, but somehow at some points I felt lost in all the things I could do and wanted to do. I love the freedom, but I also sometimes struggle with it.
The thing I love most about Luma Island is how it prioritizes numerous quality-of-life features. For example, you can go to bed after 17:30 if you want to speed up the time, but you're not forced to go to bed. You won't have a stamina meter, and you can just keep going on with the thing you're currently doing without being interrupted. You also don't have a limit to your bagspace; you can collect items for as long as you want to collect them without being forced to sell them or make items from them because you don't have any bagspace. This is such a fresh breath of air within the farming sim genre and I love it!
The Lumas are cute! It is so lovely that you can take one with you and that it will help you find hidden chests. It will also do something else, but the few different type of Luma all have their own thing they do, for example, helping with collecting the fruits and veggies you planted, or relighting the lights in the cavern, or attacking enemies for you. They aren't fast, so it isn't they they will take over those tasks for you, but they will help out. The others you'll keep on your farm and get resources from. They lost a bit of their charm by those not doing much except for running around in a pen, and you needing their resources for all your crafts. I wish I could have the types that help with harvest just in my area with the farm fields, and they doing their thing even when I wasn't there. They are still cute and I love that even with a few types, there were different Lumas so you could take the one with you you like the most. However, that part becomes a bit stale over the course of the game.
I love how Luma Island offers eight different jobs (the 8th one was added with the Pirate Update). So you can choose whatever you want to do the most. You can get the other jobs added over time, but the costs to start them do increase. I started with the treasure hunter one, as it instantly gives you a pet, and it is just nice to be able to find so many chests while just running around and doing your thing. I kept the archaeologist as the last job, because of the difficulty level the game tells you it has. And while I understand that choice, I wish I had picked it up sooner because I had to complete all the dungeons again. So if you're reading this and haven't started yet, pick that one not as your first job, but don't wait too long to get it!
None of the achievements in Luma Island are missable as long as you're playing with the Pirate Update. This update will help you out a lot as well, with more treasures and easier ways to get some of the resources. And I loved one of the customs you can unlock with this update! The achievements are quite grindy, as they require you to do everything. However, there are a lot of achievements, and I felt they rewarded you at the right time. For example, each job has a few different levels, and within those levels, you have to make a few different items. You unlock an achievement each time you level up a job, not just for finishing the whole thing. Most of the achievements you'll unlock over time while working on anything and everything. There are a few things I would keep in mind when it comes to the achievements: Build the blueprints for the mega-structures early on, so you know which items you definitely have to grind for. And wait to spend pirate coins on the wheel of fortune. Do that just a little bit after 8 am, and if you didn't get the jackpot, close the game with Alt+F4 and try again. Grinding for just that achievement will be boring, and it has such a low RNG chance.
I give Luma Island 4 out of 5 stars.
