Final Fantasy V (Old ver.) Reviews

I've been looking forward to the release of Final Fantasy V (and hopefully 6) for quite some time now on Steam. The fact that this game is the Android/iOS version does not bother me in the slightest. People have petty complaints that the hero sprites aren't good enough, and that the portrait art doesn't coincide with how the characters look, but to me they're just vain complaints. The story is still there, the gameplay is fun and doesn't require much (if any, aside from Beastiary) grinding.

My major issue is the sloppy optimization. I have a total of 10 fans in my PC; 3 on my GPU alone and 2 on a liquid cooler on my CPU, the rest are case fans. This game, despite it being pixels and sprites, runs my machine as hot, and even hotter, than any AAA title out there. A stable 35C on my CPU and 60C on my GPU is UNACCEPTABLE for this simple type of game.

The game also, somehow, manages to weigh in at a hefty 50-60% CPU load. How? For what? Luckily for me this is distributed across eight cores. But I just do not understand.

Despite enjoying this title, despite loving it coming to Steam, I am not recommending this based on the poor optimization alone. It is absolutely, undoubtedly unacceptable for a light weight, sprite based game to push my temperatures and load up to where an AAA title would have it.
