Bulb Boy is a point and click indie horror game by Bulbware that was released in October of 2015. You play as a lad who has bulb for a head, and he lives with his bong old timey light bulb shaped grandfather. After waking from a horrific nightmare, Bulb Boy discovers that his house is overrun with monsters and his grandfather has gone missing.

Let's just go ahead and get it out of the way; yes, this is a mobile port. Does that fact deter from the entertainment value of this game? Not in the slightest, though the price of $9.99 CAD is steep for a game that will last you for two hours at most. Especially given that this game costs $3.19 on mobile platforms, and true enough that the conversion from touch screen to clicking was easy enough for the developer that the extra cost is unwarranted.

The game functions as any standard point and click, however there are limited objects to interact with, so it's not very hard to figure out the puzzles. Simplistic would be the best word to describe the difficulty of Bulb Boy, but it's enjoyable nonetheless thanks to the creative artwork, obviously inspired by Edmund McMillen, and weird, semi-surrealistic setting that it houses. The boss monsters are rather unique, and they do take a slight bit of skill to overcome at first. The soundtrack is also incredibly on point, adding an even danker tinge of strangeness to the overall green atmosphere.

Even though Bulb Boy is overpriced, especially given its age, it's a decent game to grab on sale if you're looking for something to kill a couple of hours if you can't become invested in something longer. The artwork is fun to dissect with your eyes, and the soundtrack is worthy of a listen at least once in your life. The puzzles are okay at best, and despite the fact that there's no dialogue the developer did a good job getting the plot across via symbols. Take it if you like point and clicks, leave it if you don't.

Rating: 3.0/5.0 - Average, can take it or leave it.
