Completion percentage weirdness

Not sure if this is a bug or something else going on, but I've noticed something a bit weird about my completion percentage.

For example, not long ago, like maybe 2 days ago it said I needed 32 achievements to get to 45%. After that I earned 7 achievements in one game and 5 in another, 12 in total. Then it said I only needed 5.

Then did another refresh, no new achievements earned since I hit the scan limit and haven't been able to add the 5 I did earn since the last check and it's at 45% already.

To me this is just more confusing than anything else. It's not a massive fluctuation, but for other users with less games there might be a larger one. Has anyone else noticed this? Does anyone have a clue what is causing it? I haven't exactly started new games during this either so it can't be that (plus it would lower, not raise) and I just have no clue what the cause could be.

What are your DLC settings? Cos if it's set to DLC I Own, then that would do it, the GI team is sorting the packs out at the minute.

It's probably your DLC. Maybe the DLC achievements for a game weren't sorted in yesterday, but are today.
If you haven't gotten an achievement in a DLC it's not counted as owned (and not into your total). Can you think of any games in your list that have DLC but you haven't finished? Remembering that even playtime in a game counts towards your completion percentage.

    Currently it sits at 5,544 / 12,313.

Playtime doesn't affect completion percentage, it's just something the site can pull from steam and show.

The completion percentage is calculated as: Achievements unlocked / Achievements in games you've played.

And this site counts the games you've played by playtime.

It doesn't count playtime as "playing the game anymore" alphabet. You genuinely have to earn an achievement for it to count now.

If you have a game with playtime and 0 achievements earned you still count towards the ratio though.

If you have 0 score games and it's affecting your completion then it's just because you registered before that change happened. No new games should show up counting against completions, if you haven't earned any achievements.

You're right. I hadn't noticed that. I thought it was a little weird my played count wasn't going out considering the games I've idled for cards recently. Looks like the changed happened early January.

That's two different things, counting games by playtime and playtime in completion percentage. I just think you worded it wrong. Yes the site counts a game to it if you have time in, but the time itself doesn't affect it.

    Camille explained it above.

Previously if you had any playtime in a game it counted into your completion percentage. You're right, the amount of time doesn't matter.
But the system changed, now you need >0 achievements in the game for it to count.

That's definitely not true. If it stopped counting games I have 0 achievements in, my completion percentage would skyrocket immediately and the reason would be obvious. I only have 275 games with one achievement earned, TSA is counting 446 games. I'd definitely be much closer to my 92-93% I have on Steam. Seriously, only having 45% annoys me to no end because TSA is registering stuff I only idled for cards.

As far as the points others made about DLC, the thing is I only have 3 games with DLC that have achievements with them, and two of those I earned all the DLC achievements for. The two I finished are Tales of Zestiria and Oblivious Garden, the one I haven't is Magicka. But Tales of Zestiria and Magicka seem to not have the DLC achievements even showing as such, Oblivious Garden has shown the DLC achievements fine for months.

I did notice the site seems to be treating achievements added after release as DLC achievements, which is really weird because it's not DLC or even free DLC like Oblivious Garden has. Those are game updates adding more achievements after release.

It might not have been completely obvious in my post but the counting sadly isn't retroactive, if it's counted 0 achievement games it will still count them against your completion unless you have your profile purged and re scanned as your account is grandfathered.

Your steam completion is an average of all games, 200 cheevs in Team fortress have the same weight as two in A wild Catgirl Appears, TSA's is not.

You're at 5,552 / 12,307 now so one game lost 6 achievements due to DLC separation.
The maths is definitely solid, it's just the DLC separating that's changing things.
