4. AER - Memories of Old Exploring Achievements

For this storyline, you are required to visit three temples all around the map. In each temple you will find a different sigil, and collecting all three allows you to access the end game. In order to enter these three temples, you need three keys, one for each. First, head north from the settlement. You should eventually come across two pillars of light in the sky. Head to the source of either of the lights, where you'll see a square button. While standing on this square, bring out your lantern then use the square. Do this, and a symbol in front of you will raise into the air. Head to the other light in the air and repeat this. You will see a hole appear in a waterfall in a short cutscene. When you regain control of Auk, you'll see a beam of broken light heading towards this new doorway in the waterfall. Head towards this then enter the cave.

Note: When inside any cave or temple in this game, you will lose your ability to transform. Therefore, you will not be able to fly around. If you fall during a puzzle, you will have to return to the start of it and begin again.

Once inside, run down the ramp and head to the large stone tablets in the water. Head to the tablet on the right, enter the lit up shape on the floor and pull out your lantern then press cn_A to power up the tablet. Rotate the tablet once clockwise, so the symbol that looks like half a moon is facing the left. Go to the other tablet and power it up as well, then rotate it clockwise twice, so the half a sun symbol is facing left. This should light up a path to an area at the back of this cave. Go over there and head to the glowing symbol in the sky. This is the first key, so collect it then leave the cave, as you go to do so you'll meet Medvin. You'll have a brief conversation that will give you tips on where to head next. Once you finish that, you can leave the cave. From here, it is important that you head straight back to the settlement. Once there, speak with every person there (the mother, father and kid).

Now from the settlement, head north west. You will eventually reach an area called Twilight Lake. In the centre of this area, you will find an island that is mostly just a large lake, with a number of ruined stone pillars and structures around. Head to the platform in the centre with a three line symbol on it. You should be able to open the temple from this platform using the key you collected earlier. Once the temple opens, head down and inside (you can just jump over the edge rather than go down the stairs).

You are now in the Eventide Sanctuary. Head forward and follow the path around to the right until you reach a downed pillar. Run up that, then jump up different platforms up the cliff face. Head through the doorway at the top, then up two flights of stairs, until you reach a river. Instead of heading forward up the next set of stairs, head to the left following the river down. Follow it all the way along until you reach a descending flight of stairs near a giant green glowing mushroom. Go down the stairs and you'll reach a room with pillars rising and falling. Run to the back right of the room for the lowest pillar, then hop along the pillars as the rise up. If you time it correctly, you should be able to easily pass this in one attempt. Walk through the passageway at the top, to the right, walk onto the square in front, pull out your lantern then use it to open the door in front of you. This creates an easy way back to the entrance of the cave.

Do not go through this door, instead turn around and head behind you. At the back of the room, you'll see a few ascending flights of stairs. Head up these as far as possible. You'll reach a gap at the top of two flights, jump to the rocky outcrop, then jump to the next flight of stairs. Head up these and at the top you'll find yourself at the end of a broken bridge. Jump across this bridge until you reach the other side. Follow the path around until you find an area with a large rock that has a small waterfall landing on it, there will be a large closed door to the right.

Go straight forward, past this rock, to an open passageway with another large green mushroom. Go down the stairs, then head right to go down more stairs and a small river with fish jumping around. You'll find an ascending flight of stairs here, so head up these and you'll find a series of buttons that you can use spread around a circular room. I'll use compass points to tell you which button to press when, with the first button you see (with a sun symbol next to it) being south. You'll find when you press a button, that you'll take on an almost birds eye view of the pillar and buttons, so you can visualise the compass a bit easier from this view.

Head to the North button, activate it and spin the column and beam of light once clockwise. Head to the West button, then spin it once anti-clockwise. That should send the beam of light eastwards. Head out of this area, back the way you came, and go to where that small waterfall hits the rock. Head to right from where you are and you will come across two sets of stairs, one on your left and one on your right that lead to raised platforms. Run up the stairs to the right, activate the button with your lantern, and power down the projector until it shoes a crescent moon with a dot at the top (it'll shine a much brighter white when you get it). Go to the one of the left and repeat the process until that one shows a sun with a dot. This will make a walkway up ahead rotate and allow you access.

Go forward and cross this bridge, head over the other side and go to the left to find another downed pillar. Run up this pillar, then jump up a few rocky outcrops to the top. Turn left to find a small flight of stairs, go up them and look left to find another broken bridge. Jump across, then at the other side head left toward the mushroom. Just before the mushroom on the right is a big hole in the wall leading to a river. Go through this, follow the river to the right, then at the T-junction turn right and slide down a small slope. Head right a the bottom of the slope and you'll come out to an area above where the walkway is. Jump down to the left, where you can see a glowing square button on the ground. Use the button to rotate the bridge, head across and through the doorway to another button up ahead. Use this to drop a ramp downwards. Run down the ramp and if you look straight ahead, you'll see a similar ramp on the other side that needs to be lowered.

From this centre point, head down the stairs to the left then immediately go right up a different flight of stairs. In this area you need to find an activate five different switches (each will ignite a light on the closed door up ahead. The first is right on the floor in front of you. Then look left to see a pillar of rock, with a few rocky outcrops that have bits of wooden fence on them. Jump up these outcrops until you see a small fallen pillar ahead of you and the second button a little in the distance. Run over and activate the button. Turn around and head up the small flight of stairs on the right, then go up to the platform above, to find the third button.

From here, walk to the edge of the cliff where you can see the fourth button on top of that rocky pillar. Jump down to the green area in the rock face below, where a hanging lantern is. Follow this path around and up to the fourth button. Jump off this pillar and look for a set of stairs near where the second button is. Head up these and you'll find the fifth and final button. After activating that, the door will open, so head through. Through this doorway, you'll come across another button that will lower the second ramp that you saw earlier and, after a cutscene, will open a door and create a bridge to a new area. Go through the door and keep walking right to the end and you will activate a final cutscene for this area. Go through the dialogue and you will find yourself teleported back to the starting island in the water. You will also unlock:

From here head straight back to the settlement and speak with everyone. You should find the young girl, Erin, laying on a tree stump at this point.

From the settlement, head east until you find an area called Lifla's Grove. You'll find a medium sized island, surrounded by a number of other smaller islands surrounding it. The larger island in the middle will have a beam of light firing into the sky (it might be a little faint). On this island, you'll find a button in a stone structure and you should be able to see the door in the in front of you. See the spoiler below for a quick screenshot.

Hop on this button and bring out your lantern to activate it. This will play a small cutscene showing three rock pillars with circular gates opening. Each of the pillars will be marked in-game with the usual pillars of light beaming into the air. They are each on one of the smaller clusters of floating islands that surround the one you are currently standing on. You have to fly through each of them in order to open the tree doorway. (If you're struggling to find one of them, it is hidden behind a large cloud that is just to the right of the tree from when you stand on the button). Having flown through each, return to the button and activate it to open the door. Enter this doorway.

Once inside, run down the ramp and forward through the cave until you reach a little ramp upwards. To the right you'll see a deer trapped in black sphere surrounded by rocks, run up to it and go through the conversation. Now turn around and head to the area to the right into a large open cavern. Run up to the large ramp to the right until you reach the top (the area lit up purple). Look to the left and wait for the rotating platform to come around. As it reaches you, jump off the cliff onto it, ride it around to the other side and you'll find another area of cliff that you can jump onto. Run along that platform and up the next hill to reach a higher up area. Jump across the next two rotating sets of platforms to reach the button in the centre. Once here, activate the button. Go back to the deer and it will be released, and will give you the key to the second sanctuary. Also, after freeing the deer and having a conversation, you will unlock:

Leave the cave and return to the Settlement and speak with everyone there. Speak to Erin, the little girl, last. You'll find her on the small cliff above the settlement hiding behind a small tree. Once you find her, you'll unlock:

From here, you'll want to fly north east towards the next sanctuary, where you found the chiselled stone tablet earlier (see the map below)

You should be able to see the sanctuary as you fly towards it, it's the large metal complex on top of one of the higher large islands. Find steps inside of the tall central pillar, then stand on the square in the centre and enter the sanctuary.

Once inside, pull out your lantern for a bit of light, then run forward and to the left, enter a doorway then head down the two large flights of stairs. There should be a square fire-pit of sorts at the bottom. From here head left to a large open cavern with a spiralling path all the way down. Walk to the edge of the drop, in between the fallen metal fencing on the floor to the left and the rock to the right. With your lantern out, you should see a ghost of another person standing right on the edge too. From here, walk off the ledge and fall straight down. You should land on or near a square button on a metal grate. Activate this button to start a short cutscene showing more buttons further up activating. Head up the ramps to one side of you, to head up to the first of these buttons

After going up the first few ramps, you'll see the first button on your left. Run over and activate it to open the door, then go to the far button that is lit up and activate it. This activates an elevator that takes you up to a new area. Once at the top, run up the stairs to your right and head towards the two glowing pillars. These control the two doors in front of you. First, head to the left-hand pillar, activate it and fully open the door. As soon as you leave the pillar, the door will start to rise. Now head to the right-hand pillar and do the same, all the way down. Quickly go back to the left pillar and reopen the door. Run forward to the two open doors and they'll provide two platforms that you can use to jump though the doorway. Once through this doorway, head to the left where you'll find a set of stairs down. Head down them and then to the right around the fallen pillar at the bottom. Jump down the large hole in the floor and follow the path around. At the end of this path, you'll find a button. Activate this for a small cutscene, then head up the ramp to your right, hop over the broken bit and head to the small furnace at the top. Head right down the stairs and activate the button at the bottom to open the door in front of you.

Head through the door, go left around the metal bars in front of you, then head left and go down two big flights of stairs and along the path until you reach another button. Activate that to open the door in front of you. Head through then activate the next button in front of you. This starts a series of gears spinning. In order to cross the next area, you have to jump over the moving gears to reach the other side. If you fall, there will be a series of ramps behind you that take you up to where you first pressed the button. Once you reach the other side, hit the next button and some of the gears will move position and rise into the air. Jump across these to the platform to the left. Hit the button on this left platform to open up a doorway and active a small cutscene. Enter this doorway.

Head left and you'll find yourself in the first area, opposite the first button you pushed to open the door to the elevator. From here, go down the ramps to the bottom level where you pushed the button to light up the doors. From here, go forward to where the two glowing diamonds are and head right from there. In this area you'll see a ramp made of a few pieces of metal grating leading up wards. Follow this path up and around and activate the button at the top. This is the final button you need to light up those three diamonds on the door around the corner. You'll get a short cutscene showing all the diamonds lit up, then run back around to this door and activate the newly-lit switch in front it to open it. Head up the long path that reveals itself and speak to the void at the end. After this conversation, walk into the light to leave the Archives and you'll earn:

You'll find yourself back outside the Archives now, you also no longer need to keep going back to the settlement. From here, head north west to the island on the following map.

You're looking for a little area within the island, look for a large gap through it just underneath the top layer. The picture below should hopefully give you some idea.

In this little area, find the stairs and enter this cave to find the final key. Once you enter the cave, walk forwards, go slightly down the slope, then up to the left. You will see a fire burning away next to a square platform just out from the ledge. Jump onto this platform and it will light up and your screen start to shake. Quickly jump off to the right and head to the next platform, that was directly in front of you when you walked into the cave. Jump onto this platform to light it up, then hop off again so you are facing the way you entered. From here, head to your left (so up the opposite path that you ran up first time to get to the first platform). Take the high ground and about halfway along you'll see another platform on your left. Hop onto this to light it up, then back onto the high ground. Run along to the end of the path to find the final platform and jump on it. This will start a short cutscene. Once you regain control of Auk, jump down onto the now-broke ice bridge and hop across it up to the top and grab the key that is there. Run back down the bridge and leave the cave after a short conversation.

From here, head west to the final sanctuary.

On this island you'll see a small tower with a light in front of it. Follow the light to find the button to open the temple. Activate this for a short cutscene, then fly up to the entrance of the sanctuary and enter. When you enter head up the stairs on your right, when you reach the fire at the top, choose to go up the stairs to the right and activate the button at the end of the path from the top of these stairs. Activate the button to open the two sets of doors below. Then turn around and run along the path behind you. Jump over the barrier in front of you and down to a lower level where there are three little pillars. See the picture below for the area.

With these pillar switches, you need to recreate the symbol on the floor behind you using the lights on the wall, you'll just need to rotate through the light pattern to select the correct one. The solution is really simple, just rotate the right-hand pillar to the right once, then the central pillar to the right once, that will solve the puzzle and light up two symbols that you will see in a cutscene. Once you regain control, turn around and head down the stairs to the right of you and into a large open chamber.

In this chamber, you'll see a large door with the symbol you just created lit up upon it. Head to this door, go through and activate the switch you find inside to extend a bridge above you. Head back out of this room, then back up the stairs to the room with the pillars. Head up the central set of stairs to where you jumped down from earlier. Head back through that corridor to reach the first switch that you stood on to open the two lower doors.

Jump down from this switch onto the large open floor below. Head through the open door to the right and down the stairs in front of you. In this room you will see a set of stairs up and when you go up them, a set of six switches. You need to jump on them in a certain order to open the next area. I'll call the row closest to you the bottom. Jump on the bottom left button, then to the bottom middle button, then to the top middle button. That should light everything up and open the door ahead of you. However, don't go through this door just yet. Instead, head through the doorway to your left.

In this room, go past the statue of woman facing away from you, then forward to one facing you. From here, follow a snowy path on the left upwards towards the purple lights on the wall. Up here, jump up the ledge and head to the left and follow the path around (there are a few gaps to jump over so be careful). Once you reach the end of this path and enter a new larger area (with a larger stone statue ahead left), turn right and head towards the right side of the room. Here you'll see a tall door that is slightly open that you can squeeze through. Do this, then activate the switch on the other side. This will open a gate on your right.

Go through this gate and jump down to find yourself in the area with the six square switches that you jumped on earlier. Go through the door you opened then and follow the path through to a room with a switch. Activate the switch and you'll see balls of light get thrown from one pillar to another. Head up the stairs following the balls of light to reach the next pillar, then activate the switch next to that.

From here, jump up the stairs and snowy ledges to reach the next switch and do the same. For the next set, you can't directly jump up the stairs, instead go around to the left, around the back of the stairs, and onto the snowy rock ahead, you can jump from that rock onto the large set of stairs. At the top of this flight is another switch, activate it. Now turn around and head back down all the stairs and rocks that you just climbed up. Go back to the room with the six square buttons. Head up the stairs on the right, which will lead you to the gate you opened up the top earlier. Walk through the gate then go to the right. You'll go through another a doorway, then over a bridge (the bridge you created earlier) and up the stairs to the right. At the top of these stairs, you'll see the balls of light flying down the hallway ahead of you. Follow the hallway down and you'll find another switch. This is the final one and will open a door beneath you. Walk down the small ramp to your right and then jump off and go through the doorway. Run to the end of the walkway and speak with the deity that appears at the end. After your conversation finishes, enter the light square and leave the sanctuary. You'll also earn:

From here, head south back to the settlement. Once there, go to the large floating stone pillar on the island. Pull out your lantern and place the stone tablet on the pillar to start a cutscene. When you regain control, follow the line of light and fly to the Creator's Shrine in the middle of the map. Once you arrive, enter the shrine and follow the path forward. There is no other way to go and no puzzles to solve. Once you reach the end and play through some cutscenes, you will complete the game and earn:
