This battle is not to difficult once you know how to fight the boss.
Before battling this boss make sure you equip all four characters with the 4 Ribbons found in the World of Darkness. This is non-negotiable. The Boss uses an attack called "Bad Breath which will turn your characters into Toads. The Second thing that is not negotiable is use high level classes with a high level White Mage or Devout for healing. You will die if you use characters that cant deal high damage. I was lvl 63 when I defeated this boss. Make sure your party is healed and your Healer has high MP left. We dont really care about lvl 1 MP. More or less ones that use Cura, Curaga, Curaja, Protect, Haste
Once you start the fight, immediately attack the Left Tentacle(Bottom Option). This Tentacle deals high magic damage so you will want to get rid of it. The right tentacle will attack with a physical attack which isnt that strong and the Cloud of Darkness itself will use Bad Breath, Physical attack and Partical Beam which still deals high damage but has been nerfed considerably since you first saw it. You should be fully healed to start so cast protect on one of you characters to start or perhaps haste if one of them is incredibly slow.
Once the Left Tentacle is destroyed focus on the Main Body. Keep in mind if you hit for 9999, that is the highest displayed but not the actual damage done. You can hit for much higher. Keep healing with the healer to keep your guys healthy and attempt to add buffs IF you can. You should be able to kill the main body within 4-5 rounds.
