If you're new at chess, there's little I can do in this guide to teach you how to win a game. I played A.I. and a friend who was better than me and it took me 3 hours to win a game. Though I'm very out of practice.
If you want to win a game to feel good or to get the achievement, just create a single-player game vs. the easiest A.I. option and you're sure to win. Even if you fail on your first game (get used to it), just keep going at it. Much like games in the Roguelike genre, you're going to lose/fail a LOT. But that's fine, you reset the board and go for another game. The goal here is to try to learn something from each failure. When the A.I. beats you, pay attention to the moves they make and try to implement some of those strategies into your own gameplay.
